Project Description:

The Los Angeles Community College District intended to construct a two-story 50,360 gross square foot Performing and Fine Arts Center with a basement on the East Los Angeles Community College campus. The new building was constructed on an existing lot near one of the parking areas. The new center included three multi-level buildings to house the Vincent Price Art Gallery, Recital Hall, and Drama Theater. Facilities provided included those for painting, sculpture, printmaking, dance, ceramics, design and drawing, music and practice space, choir and music libraries, computer labs, and rehearsal space. Moreover, the 42,110 square foot theater building included a 167-seat drama theater, 118-seat black-box theater, costume workshop, and rehearsal space.

VCA’s Role:

VCA Engineers, Inc. provided civil engineering design services for the project. Specifically, the firm developed site-specific civil design criteria such as incorporating storm water management practices associated with sustainable design, LEED rating, and SUSMP requirements. In addition, VCA prepared schematic design drawings, design development drawings, and construction document drawings. The drawings were then submitted to various jurisdictional agencies such as the Division of the State Architect (DSA) and City of Los Angeles for plan check and attaining the necessary permits. VCA also provided bid and award support, assisted in the bid analysis for civil-related items, and provided construction assistance
