Project Description:

Foothill Transit, a joint powers authority of 21-member cities in the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys and the County of Los Angeles, was created in 1988 after the former Southern California Rapid Transit District (RTD) announced service cuts and fare increases that would negatively impact the San Gabriel Valley. In an effort to provide better public transportation options for the community while reducing costs and improving local control, the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission (LACTC) approved Foothill Transit’s application to assume operation of 14 lines which were operated by the RTD. Foothill Transit now operates 36 fixed-route local, express and rail-feeder lines, covers 327 square miles, and serves 15 million customers each year. This number is up from 9.5 million at the time of Foothill Transit’s original application. In its continuous effort to expand its service, Foothill Transit is extending its Foothill Transit Arcadia/Irwindale Facility.

VCA’s Role:

VCA Engineers, Inc. prepared the building structural engineering design, construction documents, calculations, and specifications for the expansion of Foothill Transit Bus Maintenance Facility covering two structures, namely: (1) the two-bay expansion of the Bus Maintenance Building and the Bus Wash Building and (2) the two options which would be to totally construct a new Bus Wash Building and extend the existing Bus Wash Building.
