Project Description:

As a result of the passing of Proposition Q, the City of Los Angeles intends to improve, renovate, expand and construct 911-Police-Fire-Paramedic Facilities. The $34.7 million project consisted of replacing the existing old and undersized station at its existing site. A 50,600 square foot police station, 17,550 square foot jail, 112,000 square foot parking structure, 8,400 square foot maintenance facility with a carwash facility, and a fueling island are components of the facility. A communication tower and a helipad are also included in the site. Additionally, the project achieved Gold LEED certification with USGBC

VCA’s Role:

VCA Engineers, Inc. prepared civil engineering services during the preliminary design which included: obtaining design requirements and existing utility drawings from the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works and any affected utility agencies, obtaining and reviewing the city’s provided field survey data and topographic mapping of the project site and geotechnical reports, assisting our client to conduct civil-related exploratory investigations of the existing facility, and developing site-specific civil design criteria. VCA also provided the schematic design which included: Removal Plan, Schematic Design of the Civil Site Plan, Grading and Drainage Plan, Paving Plan, and Utility Plans and Profiles. VCA also performed services to include the design of new service utility laterals such as fire and potable water, sanitary sewer, and storm drain lines, as well as A-Permit offsite improvements.
