Project Description:

The East County Detention Center Project is designed to produce a modern, efficient, and secure correctional facility that will allow the Sheriff’s Department to better manage the jail population while improving safety in local community. A total of 1,626 (1,273 new) jail beds will be built on the existing site to replace the existing outdated 353-bed jail facility.

VCA’s Role:

VCA provided the complete onsite and offsite improvements for this 460,000 sq. ft. site. The project consists of 1,273 new beds and the renovation of 353 existing beds. These Improvements included an ALTA Map and Topographical Survey of the entire site, demolition of existing buildings and structures and hardscape/Pavement, grading for drainage and accessibility for both new and demolished sites, utility disconnections and re-connections and new connections for sanitary sewer, potable and fire water, provided horizontal and vertical control for the new improvements and provided storm water management for the clean discharge or retention. Offsite improvements included the design and widening of sidewalks, ADA curb cut and drainage along the affected streets, street trees, driveways, street lights, fire hydrants, curb and gutters, sidewalks and underground storm drains and utilities. Additionally, VCA provided a demolition package for Phase 1 work consisting of the demo of the existing parking lot accessed through Highway 111, and Oasis Street as well as the CAC Building and a portion of the jail facility. Construction is ongoing and VCA is providing full Construction Assistance for the project.
