Project Description:

The City of Los Angeles intends to construct a new Los Angeles Police Department Rampart Police Station on 6th Street in a dense residential community, three blocks west of the 110 Freeway and downtown Los Angeles. The client’s goals include maximizing public green space and developing a proud civic image, subtly referencing the Art Deco and Art Modern architecture of the surrounding area. High-priority security features must be invisibly integrated, achieving a sense of public openness, transparency, and inviting appearance. The building program includes a state-of-the-art police facility with community meeting facilities, vehicle facility (for maintenance, fueling, and washing), 297-car parking structure, public parking, and secure garden areas. The project achieved Gold LEED certification with USGBC.

VCA’s Role:

VCA Engineers, Inc. was responsible for civil engineering services for the project, including offsite improvements involving new street widening, highway dedication, and repair of sidewalk, curb, and new driveway. Driveway closures were anticipated and required B-Permit from the City Bureau of Engineering. Accordingly, VCA was also involved in street improvement profiles, street lighting plans, storm drain plans, street signing and striping, traffic signalization, and additional construction services.
