Project Description:

The District 6 South Region Middle School No. 2 campus is located in the City of Bell. The project was designed to seat 1,404 students with 56 classrooms. The classrooms are grouped into three equal small learning communities in order to create a better learning environment. Each Learning Community will have their own administration and identity within the larger school. The school will include a performing arts component, library/media center, gymnasium, locker area, and multipurpose/lunch shelter with associated cafeteria. An underground parking structure provides parking for 117 staff.

VCA’s Role:

As take-over Civil-Engineer-of-Record, VCA Engineers, Inc. reviewed documents to ensure that the drawings met minimum design guidelines of LAUSD as well as State accessible path of travel requirements. Correct design changes were provided in the event during the review or during the construction for LAUSD and DSA approval. Since the project was 12% into construction, construction assistance services were provided by doing site visits for familiarity and to review and confirm construction progress, to provide responses to requests for information, to review and approve contractor’s submittals, to review and concur with contractor’s request for change order for civil-related items, and conduct four site visits to observe civil works during construction. In addition, VCA Engineers, Inc. performed design during construction that was related to clarifications, errors, and omissions of the previous civil design engineer.
